Implant Supported Dentures

Signs You Should Talk to Your Dentist About Implant Dentures

Many people with missing teeth turn to implant dentures for help. If you are tired of living with missing teeth (or no teeth at all), your dentist can help. There are clues that these types of dentures could be the right solution to restore your smile. You can also once again chew and speak properly. You could be a good candidate for this treatment and to put an end to the embarrassment you have been feeling.

How implant dentures work

While traditional dentures rest directly on the gums, implant-supported dentures use titanium implants for support and anchoring. The process starts with a series of X-rays and impressions. The dentist will discuss what the patient can expect from the procedure. Next, the dentist numbs the patient and makes an incision in the individual’s gums. Screw-like posts go deep into the jaw, which will fuse with the bone over the next few months.

Once the patient’s gums have healed and the posts are firmly in the jaw, the patient returns to the office. At this time, smaller abutments attach to the posts. At another appointment, the dentist places custom-made dentures onto the abutments. There will be at least four implants on which the dentures will rest.

Traditional dentures are slipping

Dentures have long been a viable way to replace teeth and restore people’s smiles. One challenge with dentures, however, is that they tend to slip or fall out when the person is eating or speaking. This can be embarrassing and inconvenient. When this happens to a patient, it is wise to speak to the dentist about implant dentures. These will not slip, as the implants will hold the dentures. The dentures are also not removable.

Traditional dentures are causing discomfort

While dentures can effectively help the function of the mouth improve, they can irritate the gums. People who experience this frustration and pain should consider implant dentures. Because these dentures are not sitting directly on the gums, the apparatus is much less likely to cause sores in the mouth. Implant-supported dentures make sense for people who may have sensitive gums.

Traditional dentures keep breaking or go missing

Some patients like that dentures are removable. This can be handy for maintenance and care. However, other people prefer implant dentures for the opposite reason. Only the dentist can take out these dentures. They are otherwise permanent and provide good durability. People who have broken or lost their dentures should think about switching to implant-supported dentures.

Make the change and enjoy the difference

It feels good to go from the shame of a toothless smile to having a mouthful of teeth once again. When you can eat your favorite foods and be in social settings without feeling self-conscious, you can thank implant dentures. If you currently have traditional dentures or are looking for a solution for the first time, talk to your dentist about implant-supported dentures. It should be clear to see how this treatment can benefit your oral health and appearance. Get started on your new smile today.
